WATCH: Deontay Wilder Looking For Spark In Back Half Of Career
The first line in the latest Deontat Wilder post goes: "Listen man. Everyone is gonna have an opinion about you. But those opinions don't matter." Deontay Wilder has heard your comments about his career. And he's not done yet.
At least that's according to a recent promo video posted on his Instagram account . In the video Wilder addresses the naysayers calling for him to retire saying "Life has hit him way harder than boxing. And it's not about getting knocked down. It's about getting up."
Under the leadership of new head trainer Malik Scott, Wilder is currently on a major career skid, losing four of his last five fights, three by knockout. His latest lost came at the hands of Zhilei Zhang at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In a highly bizarre moment, Zhang knocked Wilder out after spinning him around with a counter hook. Before the knockout, Wilder appeared to be complaining to the referee at which point Zhang took the chance to put him down. Wilder rose to his feet in time, but didn't look good and was waived off by the referee.
Noticeably, most of the other top heavyweights have been active over the past six months including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Joseph Parker, Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois, Daniel Dubois, Martin Bakole, Andy Ruiz, and Jarrell Miller.
No doubt that Wilder would like to be back in the mix alongside his peers. Riyadh Season is still going strong and hopefully Wilder will make an appearance on an upcoming card.
