The fight between Eryk Anders and Chris Weidman on November 16 was over before it started. No really. Anders pulled out of the fight due to a severe case of food poisoning minutes before the fight. Anders recorded a video message to fans and supporters on Instagram saying the poisoning happened the night before the fight, and he was in no shape to fight.
His opponent, Weidman, also voiced his disappointment in the last mention cancellation via X.
Both fighters and fans alike will be pleased that the fight is rebooked for Saturday December 7 at the T-Mobile Arena on the UFC preliminaries.
For Anders, this fight MUST be contextualized: Anders has stated that he only plans to fight three more times, with his fight against Weidman being one of the two.
Anders got deeply personal while talking to Thomas Gerbasi of UFC about his eventual exit being a catalyst of sorts for him to clean up his act and start thinking about the future:
“Well, to be honest, I was going to court for a custody dispute for my kid,” said Anders. “Obviously, I knew that they would drug test us, so I stopped. Then the court date kept getting pushed back and so I stayed three months, it turned to six months to however long, and then I was just like, this is actually what it feels like to have a clear mind, body, and soul. So I liked the way I felt. I liked the way my life was going, everything about it. And to clear things up, I wasn't sitting with a needle in my arm under a bridge or nothing like that. I was just partying a lot, chasing women, drinking, smoking, all that stuff. But now, I'll have a drink every now and again, but that's about it.”

Anders takes his first step toward his exit out the sport on Saturday, December 7.
Maybe.
