Helena, AL: 2024 Alabama State Silver Gloves Tournament

The 2024 Alabama State Silver Gloves took place in Helena, AL at the Helena Sports Complex this past weekend.

Athletes from all over the South met in Helena, Alabama with the goal of taking another step forward in their young boxing careers. Some even came as far as Ohio and Florida.

Even with a short planning window, event organizer Akash Chand thought the event was a successful one.

"There's not a lot of shows this time of year due to the holidays and other things. But even still, I'm happy with the results," he said. "We mainly used social media and Konquer (konquer.club) to promote it. We normally offer sponsorship packages but we didn't for this show."

Chand also mentioned how important it was to give local fighters a chance to qualify for regionals.

"There's not a whole lot of regional shows here in Alabama so it was good for those guys to get an opportunity to go further."

Overall, Chand believes the event was solid.

"We had 19 total fights. No finishes. All good boxing. I believe all the coaches were pleased with the matchups. It's only been 24 hours so I haven't looked at the attendance numbers, but I believe those numbers were good as well."

In the Youth Male Division, Pedro Gonzalez (Walker's Boxing Academy) defeated Aahil Jamal (Round 1 Boxing For Health) by Points - Unanimous.

In the Intermediate Male Division, Israel Fierro (Walker's Boxing Academy) defeated Jeremias Briceno (Round 1 Boxing For Health) by Points - Unanimous.

In the Junior Male Division, Giovanni Falcone (Champion's Boxing Gym) defeated Joshua Lopez by Points - Split.

In the Bantam Male Division, Mikyel McGowan defeated Ian Moran (Walker's Boxing Academy) by Points - Unanimous.

In the Elite Male Division, Kaleb Rentz defeated Talen Rucker-Dailey (Champion's Boxing Club) by Points - Split.
